Product Description
Fast data transfer just got a whole lot better thanks to the all-new Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G Dual Hard Drive Docking Station. Continuing the award-winning concept of allowing user to conveniently hot-swap drives without the use of any tool, BlacX series of hard drive docking station re-defined the way users transfer large amount of data. BlacX Duet 5G utilizes the latest in USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) interface that enables blazing fast data transfer with maximum throughput of 5.0 Gbps, 10 times the transfer speed found on previous USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) interface. To achieve the added transfer speed, BlacX Duet 5G fully utilizes the bi-directional data interface, for each receive and transmit signals, rather than the half-duplex arrangement found on USB 2.0. BlacX Duet 5G is also fully backward-compatible with USB 2.0 host devices providing future-proof upgrade capability to USB 3.0. Included are AC Adapter, premium shielded USB 3.0 cable, as well as 2.5" and 3.5" hard drive silicone protective sleeve.

Costumer Reviews
We have used several types of backup hardware, including the USB2 version of this two-bay dock for about two years. This is the all-new-greatest version in USB3 form. Easy to hookup and install; literally a plug-and-play. Of course, USB3 capability must be available on Motherboard or via PCIe expansion card. It looks like any on-board drive, so it is "native" to the computer for browsing, etc. (We use Second Copy but any backup software could be used.) Bonus is, we have two of these in USB3 single-bay form that travel with us to plug into our laptops. By carrying one of the backup drives from the desktop with us, everything is instantly available, no muss, no fuss. Excellent product, fairly priced.
UPDATE:
Two reviewers have raised the issue of "3TB" in Amazon's "headline" (as well as the photos, some of which show hard drives in the dock). NOTE that the Product Description section is clear about what is included; no hard drives are mentioned.
"Included are AC Adapter, premium shielded USB 3.0 cable, as well as 2.5" and 3.5" hard drive silicone protective sleeve."
This device is a docking station for SATA hard drives but DOES NOT include any hard drives. The buyer must supply their own hard drives. That fact does not diminish the value or usefulness of this dock. And, keep in mind that nearly all external "backup" devices do not include hard drives, but are only housings that hold compatible hard drives of the buyers choice. This dock's main "feature" as compared to external housings is that the drives may be easily swapped in and out as needed without having to open a closed housing or the computer to swap drives. As noted in my review above, when we travel, we take a drive from the desktop dock and use it in a single-bay version of this device attached to our laptop. In this way, all of our data is always on hand at home and abroad without having to wondering whether we can connect to the "cloud" when on the road.
to take advantage of usb 3.0 speeds, your motherboard must have the capability or you can install a pci card (which is how i am set up). plugged it in and was immediately recognized. hd tach shows transfer speeds of 129 MB/s (my external usb 2.0 hd is about 37 MB/s). i do not think this was meant to act as a permanently attached external hard drive because the drive seems to spin all the time and gets very hot to the touch. because of this i am only keeping this on when i am making transfers.
