Being a Bose SoundDock owner, I had high expectations for this device and was pleasantly surprised that it delivered in spades.
DESIGN:
The design is asthetically pleasing, front speaker mesh looks good and is tightly stretched. The Ipod connector is sturdy and holds my 3rd gen Nano w/ no issues. The built in volume buttons are backlit, a nice touch.
SOUND:
This thing is LOUD. I listen to high bitrate mp3s and podcasts on my Ipod and the clarity was flawless. The bass boost technology delivers surprisingly solid deep notes. Not that hollow tinny sound you find in many cheap portable devices. Sound quality is good from behind the device also.
ACCESSORIES:
Don't have an ipod? No problem. Just hook the included USB cable to your laptop and play your music library through iTunes over the Philips. Beats the crap out of laptop speakers! The unit also runs on 4 AA batteries, which would make it easy to throw in a bag an take to the beach. There's nothing in the manual on how long it will run on batteries, so I can't speak on that. There is an auxillary mini headphone cable you could hook a non-ipod mp3 player up to the unit with also, so this isn't only for Ipod/Iphone owners. BONUS! I don't own an iPhone, but I threw some batteries in this thing and hooked my phone up to it w/ the auxillary cable and I was able to jam in the backyard to some Pandora!
All in all, this is a quality electronic device, and that shows in both the craftsmanship and performance.
6 WEEK LATER EDIT: I have taken this badboy to the beach 3-4 times now and it is AWESOME. I hooked the phone up through the aux port and jammed some Pandora radio. I'd say I get about 3 hours out of Costco AAs in it so I just keep 8 in the beach bag and I'm set. Very nice portable setup.
This docking speaker, made by Philips, is a tremendous accompaniment to your IPhone, IPod, and recorded music. Used to listen to music on the computer-did not realize what I was missing until this came.
As soon as the docking apparatus arrived, I plugged in my iPod and have scarcely enjoyed music so much.
The quality of sound is indeed impressive; the music is richer and fuller.
This little unit is attractive and easy to set up and use. It has a small footprint and fits just about anywhere.
The acoustic quality of this device is fantastic-it is a tremendous value and very well priced for such a terrific sound machine!
