A little hard to get the ipod touch 4g hooked onto the connector at first, but once on it's held firmly. There are no connection adapters. Ipod gave a "charging is not supported with this accessory" message after it was done charging, but it had charged it anyway. The remote does have a short working distance, but then for some functions you'd have to be close enough to see the screen anyway. I added its functions to my universal remote which works from across the room. The cords are short, but longer ones can be substituted (how many extra digital camera/GPS usb cords do you have lying around?). The unit has no lights to indicate the charging status. It feels sturdy. The charger is 1.0amp output. Mine came without a manual, but not really needed.
I was really looking forward to controlling my iPod through the remote but am disappointed. First, the cables that come with it to attach to the USB charger and your home entertainment system are about 3' long, so this has to be in close proximity to your devices. Most disappointing though is that the range of the remote is 6'. The function and quality of the device are fine but it doesn't function as I need it to.
