Henge Dock Docking Station for 13

Product Description

Henge Docks has created the first truly comprehensive docking station solution for Apple's line of notebook computers. This means you can quickly, easily and cleanly incorporate your MacBook computer into a desktop setup or your home theater system, so you get the best features of a laptop, desktop and media center PC all from one computer. Henge Docks patent-pending design doesn't require any hardware, software or settings changes to your computer. In fact, every current MacBook is compatible with our system, right from the factory. Each Henge Dock model is designed for a specific type of MacBook computer. Click your style of MacBook above to select the Henge Dock that is right for you. Included with each dock are a full complement of custom USB, Ethernet, Audio cables and in some models Firewire cables, designed to work with the Henge Dock system. Our MacBook docking system reuses a customer's existing Apple supplied MagSafe power source and Mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter. If you choose to purchase a spare MagSafe Power Adapter or Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter adapter we recommend you buy only original Henge Dock or Apple accessories to guarantee compatibility. Setting up a Henge Docks unit is straight forward, allowing you to select only the cables you need making docking and undocking the computer as easy as possible. Customer Reviews

This is one very shoddy piece of equipment. It's made out of a thin white plastic that is exceedingly fragile, tending to crack when the built-in hex bolts that hold cables in place are tightened.

It's basically a hollow plastic shell, through which you insert cables (tightened via the bolts mentioned above) that in theory should mate with the corresponding input jacks on the left side of your Macbook Pro (please note the "in theory!"). All the attached cables feed through a slot in the rear of the dock.

Once fed through the dock's bottom slot, each cable is supposed to fit into a molded housing, each "designed" to hold a particular cable i.e. ethernet, mini-displayport, etc.

Three different mini-display cables failed to fit into the dock's receptacle, each cable being just a hair larger than the dock's port. It was suggested online that one should purchase the mini-displayport cable made by Henge to ensure a correct fit. Using a dremel, I was able to trim a display cable's plastic shell slightly, making it the size expected by the dock.

Once I fed all the cables through the bottom of the dock, each had to be held in place using the hex bolts mentioned above. Beware even a slight over-tightening of these bolts. The interior housings are fragile and will easily crack, as I found out to my dismay.

Once you have the dock assembled, the fun of inserting your Macbook into it begins. If you don't have the Macbook exactly lined up with the connectors protruding from the inside of the dock, you will probably end up loosening one of the dock connectors, pushing it down just enough that it fails to make a good connection with the computer. To the eye, the laptop appears to be docked, but this plastic geegaw is just teasing you.

If you do, by some miracle, achieve docking, your best bet is to leave your precious Macbook in place forever. Attempting to undock it is a two-person task, one person has to hold the dock in position, while another must firmly pull the Mac upwards, per the instructions, avoiding any rocking motions. Undocking the Mac usually loosen one or more connectors, making re-docking an adventure in frustration, duplicating the initial out-of-box experience.

I give this product one star, only because I'm not allowed to give it a negative 5.

I'm an Amazon Prime customer and was excited to order and get this docking station this morning, only to open the package and find it contained a shoddy plastic shell and a bunch of loose screws rattling around in the package. This is certainly not the ready to use product that they advertise. All it is a piece of plastic and a few screws to hold cables in place - and you have to supply the cables! Buyer beware...this is a very disappointing product.
