I've been searching for a USB doc w/ VGA capability since switching to a new Windows 7 machine back in June, as the Kensington dock that I'd used for almost 2 years was no longer compatible with my new OS (worked really well on an XP machine but the DisplayLink drivers that Kensington uses for that dock aren't compatible with Win7 - despite what their site says), so I was excited to find this one at such a low price. I also did my research elsewhere online and found that, from what others said AND from what their site said, it was supposed to be compatible. Sadly, this wasn't the case.
First strike - the disk that came with the device was warped like an old record that'd been forgotten in the sun. So I had to go to their site and DL the drivers. Followed the install process and nothing happened. Uninstalled ... re-installed ... followed the very simple directions to the letter ... nothing. The dock will power up and will run things that are USB powered, but it did not communicate between laptop and peripherals. I did the uninstall/re-install dance once more and still nothing.
The bottom line is that I have no idea whether it works with a Win7 laptop or if it was just the device that was faulty, but it is now sitting on my desk, packaged and ready to be shipped back for a refund. I know I could call tech support, sit on hold for a while, explain my issue 3 or 4 times to several different people but even at $20, this thing has wasted enough of my time that it's just not worth it to even try. I'm going through Dell and buying one directly from them that I KNOW works with my Vostro 1335. Ugh, what a pain in the a$$.
This is an amazing product for the money. It does exactly what the more expensive brands do for a fraction of the cost. This is the second one I have purchased and they both have worked flawlessly.
